Smart Off-Grid Hardware Components

Clear Blue’s Smart Off-Grid solution is designed for telecommunications, lighting and Internet of Things applications. Clear Blue’s telecom Nano-Grid solution is a pre-configured power pack that includes the Smart Off-Grid Controller, Communications Gateway, DC/DC converter, Clear Blue batteries, and solar panels, all pre-wired and enclosed in a protective cabinet. Clear Blue’s Illumient lighting and IoT solution includes poles, arms, the Smart Off-Grid Controller, solar panels, batteries, and cabling. The Clear Blue team will help you choose the right power system for your application, as well as the best pole option to fit your needs.


Smart Off-Grid Controller

The Smart Off-Grid Controller is crucial to Clear Blue’s Nano-Grid and Illumient solutions. The Clear Blue Controller enables remote operation of mission-critical systems for reliable power delivery anytime, anywhere. The Controller powers loads and manages energy generation and storage. Also, the Controller communicates with the Illumience cloud software to make the system smart. Communication with Illumience facilitates remote monitoring, management and control of power systems. In addition, the Controller has a unique Load Test function to further improve system performance. For lighting applications, the Load Test ensures system performance at different lighting profiles. For telecom applications, the Load Test allows installers to clear short circuits, Low Voltage Disconnects, and make sure the system is performing optimally before they leave the site. The Smart Off-Grid Controller is critical to Clear Blue’s Smart Off-Grid solution for every application.

Communications Gateway

Clear Blue’s Smart Off-Grid Communications Gateway connects the devices from multiple power systems in a mesh network to the Illumience cloud management service through ethernet or cellular networking. The Gateway is fully integrated into the Illumience cloud, providing secure architecture through which to access system data. As well, as many as 25 systems can connect to Illumience via one Gateway, thereby lowering the cost of communications. The Auto MeshNet feature of the Gateway device allows for automatic reconfiguration of which devices are connected to each Gateway, making installations and maintenance quick and seamless. The Gateway is used for both our Illumient lighting and Nano-Grid telecom installations with multiple systems and/or multiple controllers per system. Please note: if there are obstructions between sites, the gateway may not be able to connect as many as 25 systems. Learn more about Clear Blue’s communications below.

Smart DC/DC Converter

The Smart DC/DC regulator converts 24V to 52V, providing regulated power for loads with varying power requirements. Some loads require an exact voltage, and a DC/DC converter can be adjusted to ensure the load receives the precise voltage required. By producing our own DC/DC converter, Clear Blue maintains the lowest cost in a highly cost-sensitive market. The DC/DC converter also has a Wi-Fi app which acts as a virtual meter to monitor system data and manage system performance.

Cabinet

All Clear Blue Smart Off-Grid power systems come wired, and configured in a cabinet. This way, minimal assembly is required, and the hardware is enclosed in one safe place. The cabinet can hold up to four 140 AH 12V batteries. There is an option to add a door security alarm so that Clear Blue’s team is notified if the cabinet door is opened. This unique feature is great for protecting against theft of batteries or other components.

Batteries

Energy storage and reliable back-up power is critical to Clear Blue’s Smart Off-Grid solution. While Clear Blue does not manufacture the batteries, we actively manage them so that you get the most out of your off-grid power system. Clear Blue’s Smart Off-Grid power systems can operate with any battery chemistry including Lead Acid (AGM and Gel) and Lithium Iron Phosphate. As well, our systems have the flexibility and modularity to incorporate new, emerging battery technologies with ease.
