Job Title: Sales Engineer
Department: Solutions
Reports to: SVP Solutions
Job Description Date: December 2021
Position Location: Hybrid – Remote/Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Position Availability: Immediate
Job-type: Full-time

Clear Blue provides Smart Off-Grid energy solutions to customers in 37 countries for telecom, lighting, industrial controls, security systems, emergency power, and IoT devices. In Africa, our primary focus is the rural telecommunications market, and we sell direct as well as through partners. Our customers include mobile network operators, installers/integrators, service providers, government agencies, municipalities, and private companies. The majority of Clear Blue’s sales are through its strategic channel partners.

Clear Blue Technologies is looking for an entrepreneurial and self-starter Sales Engineer. Customers make buy decisions in two steps: they first determine if they want to buy from Clear Blue, and then if the product will meet their needs. The Sales Engineer’s primary responsibility is to help facilitate this decision-making process by establishing a strong, trusted relationship on a technical level with customers and partners such that they strategically buy into our vision, product and technology.

Clear Blue Sales Engineers are responsible for providing technical and in-depth product expertise alongside the sales team in selling and supporting customers. The primary activities will involve providing ‘expert level’ technical support to the sales team, in-depth technical explanations of Clear Blue’s products, answering technical components of RFPs, and providing custom designs as needed to support various sales opportunities in the field. The successful candidate has a strong electrical engineering and power background (with knowledge regarding solar and low power DC systems) and is comfortable with technical selling.  The successful candidate also has excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. Candidates must have 5+ years of experience and be able to travel.  Previous experience in the Telecommunications field and fluency in a second language is a bonus.

Clear Blue has a strong work-life balance culture to support the needs of employees and their families. Our customers work different days of the week (Sundays to Thursdays as an example) and in different time zones (very early in the day is the busiest time of the day) and therefore the position does require some flexibility and an ability to provide support on weekends and various hours during the day as required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Have an excellent technical understanding of Clear Blue products and services.
  • Ability to articulate Clear Blue’s value proposition, brand promise, and key differentiators.
  • Ability to provide a strong technical sell of the solution while at the same time making it simple and easy for the customer to understand.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers and their technical experts.
  • Able to provide system demonstrations with Illumience, Clear Blue’s cloud-based smart management platform and service
  • Support the creation of sales presentations and sales proposals
  • Provides product, service, or equipment technical and engineering information by answering questions and requests. Able to complete point-by-point responses to lighting, telecommunications and power tenders.

You will excel if you have:

  • Strong technical skills;
  • Proven track record in a technical pre-sales role;
  • Impeccable customer service skills;
  • Motivated, driven attitude to be able to work independently;
  • Ability to present an alternate point of view and shape the client’s perceptions and beliefs;
  • Expert in time management;
  • Strong ability to create and deliver effective client presentations;
  • Very high computer literacy with Microsoft suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and online tools such as Dropbox, confluence, etc.;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Willing to use CRM platform (i.e., Salesforce) for tracking appointments, sales, complaints, status reports.
