KPIs for Off-Grid
Telecom Power
Six metrics that tell you whether your off-grid power systems are performing, degrading, or failing. Each one mapped to what it means, how to measure it, and how Illumience tracks it automatically.
Site Power Availability (%)
What it measures
Percentage of time the site has usable power. This is the single most important metric for telecom operators because it directly correlates with network uptime and subscriber experience.
How to calculate it
Calculated as: (Total hours in period minus hours with power below minimum threshold) divided by total hours. Measured per-site and fleet-wide.
How Illumience tracks it
Illumience tracks power availability continuously and reports it in daily, weekly, and monthly summaries. Alerts fire when availability drops below your configured threshold.
Battery State of Health (%)
What it measures
How much usable capacity remains compared to the original rated capacity. As batteries age, they hold less charge. When state of health drops below 80%, the battery can no longer reliably carry the site through low-generation periods.
How to calculate it
Measured by comparing actual discharge capacity against rated capacity under controlled conditions. Requires a monitoring platform that tracks charge and discharge cycles over time.
How Illumience tracks it
Illumience tracks battery degradation continuously and alerts the operations team when state of health approaches replacement thresholds. Under EaaS, Clear Blue ships replacement batteries proactively.
Solar Energy Yield vs. Expected (%)
What it measures
How much energy the solar panels actually produced compared to what they should have produced given the available sunlight. A gap indicates panel soiling, shading, damage, or controller issues.
How to calculate it
Compare actual generation data against a modeled output using satellite irradiance data for the exact GPS coordinates. Illumience does this automatically using 30 years of historical weather data.
How Illumience tracks it
Illumience compares real-time generation against expected output daily. A sustained drop below 90% triggers an investigation alert.
Generator Runtime Hours (per month)
What it measures
Total hours the diesel generator runs each month. The primary measure of diesel displacement success. Directly correlates with fuel savings, maintenance reduction, and carbon reduction.
How to calculate it
Tracked by the system controller via generator run signal or fuel sensor. Compare monthly runtime before and after hybridization.
How Illumience tracks it
Illumience logs generator runtime automatically and includes it in monthly fleet reports. Alerts fire if runtime exceeds the weekly target.
Mean Time Between Site Visits (days)
What it measures
Average number of days between physical maintenance visits to a site. Higher is better. Remote monitoring and proactive management should extend the interval between required visits.
How to calculate it
Track all site visits (scheduled and unscheduled) and calculate the average interval across the fleet.
How Illumience tracks it
Illumience remote troubleshooting resolves many issues without a site visit. Clear Blue EaaS customers typically see 60-80% fewer site visits compared to unmanaged systems.
Cost per kWh Delivered
What it measures
Total cost of power delivery (including hardware amortization, maintenance, fuel, and monitoring) divided by total kWh delivered. The ultimate efficiency metric.
How to calculate it
Sum all power-related costs for the period. Divide by total metered energy delivered to the load. Compare against your previous diesel-only cost per kWh.
How Illumience tracks it
Illumience tracks energy delivered per site. Combined with EaaS billing data, this gives a precise cost-per-kWh figure for any reporting period.
All Six KPIs in One Dashboard
Illumience tracks every KPI automatically across your entire fleet. No manual data collection, no spreadsheets, no lag between what is happening and what you know about it.
