This calculator compares three approaches to powering remote off-grid sites over a 10-year period. It models the full total cost of ownership (TCO), not just the sticker price. For diesel generators, this includes fuel (with annual price escalation), fuel delivery logistics, scheduled maintenance, major overhauls, and full unit replacement. For unmanaged solar, it includes hardware, installation, reactive maintenance labor, and earlier battery replacements due to unoptimized charge management. Key Assumptions

The default values are based on industry data from GSMA, IRENA, and EPA for remote telecom and infrastructure sites.
