Clear Blue Technologies Announces Town of Eckville, Alberta Saves Money and Goes Solar with Smart Off-Grid Lights

Clear Blue streetlights to light up Eckford Street, at 30 % lower cost than traditional lighting

November 5, 2019, Toronto, ON – Clear Blue Technologies (“Clear Blue” or “the Company”) (TSXV:CBLU) today announced that the Town of Eckville, Alberta has purchased Illumient solar-powered lighting systems.  The lights will be used to illuminate Eckford Street, (Eckville’s main street which was named in 1996 on the town’s 75th Birthday).  Based on the financial analysis done as part of the project, the cost of using Clear Blue’s Smart Off-Grid lights was approximately 30% cheaper than using traditional, grid-connected lighting.  In addition, the solar lights will also result in no monthly power bill and would need minimal concrete removal to install along the sidewalks.

“The initial reason for selecting solar was the cost to connecting to the grid and the disruption to the streets and construction. In addition to the cost savings, this is of great benefit to our local businesses by avoiding construction disruptions.” said Jack Ramsden. “And avoiding the monthly costs that would have been due to our local power utility is an added benefit.”

Helen Posti, Mayor of the Town of Eckville, added, “I have been on Council since 1986 and Mayor since 1991 and I think this is the most exciting project that Council has ever undertaken. Council is excited about this project of Eckford Street which was renamed after the town’s founder in 1996 on the town’s 75th Birthday. In 2021 we will be celebrating our 100th anniversary of incorporation, so this is a timely project given the environment and the cost are the key factors for this decision.”

Illumient Smart Off-Grid solar lighting systems connect wirelessly to the Internet, sending real-time information to Clear Blue Technologies’ cloud-based software, Illumience.  This enables remote control, monitoring, and management of the lighting systems, ensuring high reliability and low maintenance costs.  Illumience also allows service personnel to optimize lighting profiles, such as dimming the lights during periods of prolonged bad weather to preserve battery power, and also includes automated monitoring and alerts.

“Using Smart Off-Grid lighting is not just better for the environment, it makes great financial sense, as the Town of Eckville knows,” said Miriam Tuerk, CEO and co-founder of Clear Blue. “It also eliminates the disruption and negative economic impact that is caused when a main street corridor undergoes a significant construction project such as installing new grid-connected lights. With forest fires and power outages, Smart Off-Grid adds an extra layer of security because the lights are on even when the power grid is off.  We are so pleased to have been selected by the Town Of Eckville for this important project.”

Helen Posti added, “Come to Eckville where the lights are always on.”
